ASBO Meets: NYOTAA

Stepping into the industry with a vibe, a soulful sound and an authentic charisma, NYOTAA is an artist that you definitely can’t miss out on. The independent artist is set to make a statement within the music scene and no doubt is on the verge of becoming one to watch, as she takes the stage in London. Being only 23-year-old the Belgian singer/songwriter has accomplished many, from pushing her creativity in tracks, to being signed to her self-owned record label, Kamona Records.

Having released three new singles; ‘Come x Get It’, ‘I Can’t Wait’ and ‘Ready’, the Soul Pop artist is now in the process of introducing her First Debut album ‘Twentyoneandlost’. But wait, there’s more! NYOTAA has taken on the festive season with her new release coming this Christmas Eve called ‘Wrap Me Up (This Christmas)’, created with Nigerian producer, Banx.

Keep an eye out for NYOTAA, as she is set and ready to make 2021 a year of soulful pop. That means, more singles, new music videos and of course we love to see it, collaborations with upcoming artists. This is NYOTAA uncovered.

What first got you into music and what drew you to the field?

I started creating music properly when I was 16 and my brother Mokoy was 15 at the time. Together, we created a sibling duo called Izeidi Izeidi. We make alternative R&B/ Soul Music.

Who are your music inspirations?

I was always into music since I was a child, my mum played my favourite 80’s /90’s female singers on repeat and introduced me to more artists as time came along. Today, my inspirations are Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Aaliyah, Jorja Smith and Chloe x Halle.

What is your process when making music, what inspires you?

I usually have to be drawn into the beat; I believe the beat is very important when making music. It makes writing more clearer and fun! I then listen a few times then write from top to bottom. It sometime takes a couple of hours to a couple of days, depending on if your music juice is flowing.

Have you got any collaborations lined up, if not who would you like to create music with?

I do have a couple of collaborations coming up which will be announced in the future! Someone I would love to collaborate is Little Simz or Jorja Smith, I think their lyrics are so beautiful and well written.

Has Covid taken a toll on being an artist?

I think Covid has taken a toll on a lot of people, it has come to a realisation that we need each other more than we think. Entertaining others online has given us another view in music which is all possible for us to express ourselves and connect.

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be pursuing?

That’s very hard! I don’t think I could do anything else to be honest, maybe become a content creator via YouTube or open a record label.

What is the best advice you would give someone who is looking to be in the same industry as you?

Be you and be open! It’s okay to work hard and sacrifice, just be sure to make time for your body and mental health.

What is the best song you ever released?

Oooo! They are all my babies! But the one I am proud of is ‘Dangerous Love (Say My Name)’ because it’s a different style that I am used to.
