Mariusz Malon, the 23 year old Polish designer from Ireland, is making waves in the fashion and drag world. Bold silhouettes, playful colours and unconventional materials are distinctive traits in Mariusz’s designs as he explains how his aesthetic is “very much surface design led”. Whilst still studying Fashion Design in Manchester, Mariusz has showcased his designs at Cannes Film Festival, won national competitions in ireland and even had the legendary Bimini wearing his creations, “open[ing] many doors for [him] in the drag world”.
Having a vivid imagination, story telling is an integral part of Mariusz’s work, “I’ve always been a fan of fantasy as a kid growing up seeing lady gaga perform and shock with her outfits, I knew that I wanted to create things that will make people feel the same in the future”. Mariusz wants to show the world that fashion doesnt have to be just functional through transforming mundane garments into “wearable art, some even sculptures”.
Honest as his work is bold, Mariusz shares that “the fashion industry scares [him]”, but he hopes to be able to continue to share his creativity with the world. We can’t wait to see his final collection, and we’re certain this is only the beginning. Watch this space.
