CAM BRADBURY – LEAD VOCALS FOR MANTIS STATE
Style Influences? Growing up, I have always been a punk fashion fan! However, forming Mantis State showed me a whole new world of fashion and style… The type of music we play is typically funkier. This is why I like to describe my style as ‘PUNKY BUT FUNKY!’ My style is influenced by bands such as OK GO with their very bold and vivid colour choices. Tonight’s EP Launch, I decided to go for a white lace shirt, paired with my thrifted blue pants with a kind of bohemian print. I think tonight my outfit really fits the electrical feel of our new EP ‘Into the Sun’
Who are the band members?
Me! Cam, on the lead vocals and trumpet. We have Fal on the Keys, Cal on the lead guitar, Dave on drums, Haydn and Jacko on Saxophone and Christian on the Bass!
What is the sound inspiration?
With our musical sound, we have seen progression and change over the years of Mantis State. At first, I would say that our sound was influenced by the likes of Vulfpeck, Toto and Jamiroquai. However, I would say now our newer sounds echo the likes of Metronomy, Tame Impala and Jungle!
Where did you all meet?
Mantis State formed in Leeds at the Leeds College of Music (Leeds Conservatoire) , I could say we’ve been working together since around 2018. Since then we have all relocated to the big city! London, in 2021! Five of the band members live together!
Top Three gigs that stand out?
Top Three Gigs for me would be of course The Isle of Wight Festival back in 2022! Jazz Café in Camden. And tonight, at Colours, Hoxton for our Into The Sun Ep Launch. The energy was and is going to be absolutely huge, I’ve never seen so many people singing along to our songs it’s just crazy seeing a room full of people singing along to your lyrics!!
