LA band and art collective, JULIE release their latest single ‘Clairebourne Practice’ as part of their much-anticipated debut album ‘My Anti-Aircraft Friend’ set to release September 13th .

The trio made up of: Keyan Pourzand, Dillon Lee, and Alex Brady describe themselves as a family instead of a group of artists. Originally a duo consisting of Pourzand and Lee who met in high school and only later enlisting Brady after meeting her in the local music scene. Feeling like at first they didn’t quite fit in, they were able to cultivate their band identity during the pandemic embracing the isolation and reflectiveness that the detachment from the rest of the world brought, to examine their voice and the reasons why they want to release music.

The multidisciplinary artists take meticulous care when designing all the aspects of their music, visuals being just as important as the music itself. The visualiser for Clairborne Practice is moody and dark, similar to the feel of Gregg Araki’s film ‘Doom Generation,’ slightly apocalyptic with anarchical undertones. They explore a new romantic feel, using raw ‘pre-internet/ VHS’ style aesthetics.

Describing the sound as their “most androgenous” as it mixes the two vocals of the band, creating conflict in their opposition. The band uses the layering of voices combined with the lyrics of the song to examine a society that doesn’t listen to each other anymore, generating a feeling of melancholic nostalgia throughout the track. Continuing this theme through the sweetly chaotic juxtaposition of the playful, childlike shadows of Lee dancing with the visceral imagery of smashing a washing machine with a hammer.
