LAUNCH THE APPLY TO PLAY BY THE SEA COMPETITION. A BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW BANDS TO CLAIM THEIR PLACE ON THE BILL. ALONGSIDE THE K’S, THE ROYSTON CLUB, SEB LOWE AND MANY MORE
A stacked bill featuring the most exciting indie-rock bands and the next wave of rising talent, all of which have been backed since the start by rock ‘n’ roll tastemakers This Feeling? A weekend spent amongst a community of music lovers, bringing together regional scenes from across the country to one beautiful seaside location? Some late summer sun shining down on Bridlington Spa, one of the UK’s most stunning venues? All of these things make the This Feeling By the Sea weekender an unmissable event. Now the festival launches Apply To Play By The Sea, a competition which gives two brand new artists the opportunity to perform alongside the likes of The K’s, The Royston Club, Seb Lowe and Pastel.

The winners will be decided by two influential tastemakers. BBC Introducing DJ Jericho Keys will pick a winner from the Yorkshire region to open Friday’s bill, while Radio X’s John Kennedy will pick a national winner to kick-off Saturday’s festivities.
Last year’s winners have prospered since making their This Feeling debut. Regional winners about-faces have constantly toured the UK, while their early singles have been boosted with airplay across Radio 1, BBC Introducing and Absolute, while Clout hailed them as “one of the most exciting emerging bands right now.” Meanwhile, national champion Ruby J followed her By The Sea set by releasing her debut EP ‘Backtrack’ and landing endorsements with Harmony and Elixir Strings. Having also played shows with The Lathums and Jamie Webster, she is now in the midst of the biggest festival season of her career to date.
The competition is now live HERE and will close at 10am on Monday, August 5th. The winners will be revealed at 6pm on Wednesday, August 7th.

Jericho Keys says, “By The Sea is living proof that guitar music is still thriving within the UK. It’s a very special weekend as you’re able to see and meet some of the most exciting and promising bands around. I can’t wait to do it all again in Bridlington in September.
Last year I was lucky enough to be able to help Yorkshire’s very own about-faces open up the festival, and now they are absolutely killing it in the scene. By The Sea helped springboard their music to the masses. What a perfect place to introduce yourself to the world. If you want a way in… then apply!”
John Kennedy adds, “It was great to be able to listen to all the applicants last year, pick one and then see them perform on the brilliant stage at Bridlington Spa. Looking forward to doing it again!”
The winners will join a line-up full of bands who have all risen up with the help of long-term support from the rock ‘n’ roll tastemakers This Feeling. Let’s look at some of their recent highlights:
- After shooting into the UK Official Album Chart at #3 with the debut album, The K’s smashed the main stage at the Isle of Wight and commanded an audience way bigger than the Woodsies tent at Glastonbury could hold.
- The Royston Club also impressed with three sets at Glastonbury, and are now set to play to 3500 fans during their homecoming headline shows in Liverpool.
- Pastel built upon their big stage experience with Liam Gallagher by earning a rapturous reception at TRNSMT. Their big anthem ‘Deeper Than Holy’ is now being rediscovered as they continue to work on their debut album.
- Everything’s going perfectly for Seb Lowe with killer performances at Glastonbury and TRNS
- MT, millions of streams, acclaim from Rolling Stone and now his biggest headline tour to date.

- The Clause are on fire, with their upcoming EP ‘Weekend Millionaire’ set to be their best collection of songs to date, while seeing phenomenal demand for tickets ahead of their autumn headline tour.
- The Crooks sold-out every show on their recent tour and now have a bigger run of dates incoming too. They’ve also earned glowing comparisons with DMA’S, Noel Gallagher and The Enemy.
- The Rosadocs won a wave of new fans after opening for The Reytons in front of 20,000 people – priming the band for their biggest headline show to date in Sheffield later this year.
- The Kairos have been busy playing shows with all manner of indie-rock favourites, including James, Red Rum Club, Cast and The Rifles.
Limited remaining tickets for This Feeling By The Sea are available HERE, priced at £60 for the weekend, £35 for day tickets, and £10 for those under the age of 12.
