At FJU Talents during London Fashion Week, Din introduced a whimsical world through their debut collection, “Magic Momo.” This imaginative series, rooted in a childhood fairytale, tells the story of Magic Momo, a dreamlike alien battling the sinister Dark Lord who plunges the Earth into darkness. Each of the ten outfits symbolised either one of the Magic Momos or the humans under the Dark Lord’s shadow, evoking a narrative of light, hope and resilience.

Din’s collection was not just fashion, it was a story brought to life through textures, colors, and movement. “I create stories, and fashion is my way of telling them,” they shared during our conversation. For Din, the storytelling aspect is central to their work, and Magic Momo is just the beginning. The collection’s designs, playful yet profound, incorporated elements like crocheted textures, representing the tactile warmth of handmade craft. Din drew inspiration from their experiences and love for crochet, noting, “There’s something deeply personal in handmade pieces. It combines my story and texture into one.”

The runway buzzed with wackier sounds and a joyful energy, reflecting the flailing knit fabrics and extensions that gave the garments a life of their own. Din described the process of creation as their “happy place,” a way to channel stress into pure creativity. While their aesthetic may evolve, the joy and spontaneity that define their work were palpable in every piece that moved down the runway.

Despite being fresh to the industry, Din’s debut was anything but tentative. Their brand, “Magic Momo,” is set to continue this narrative-driven approach, with each collection unraveling a new chapter of the alien’s adventures. “In five years, I want to create more stories, each different, each unexpected,” Din told me. It’s clear that their work will continue to surprise and captivate, blending storytelling with fashion in ways we haven’t seen before.

FJU Talents, sponsored by Fu Jen Catholic University, provides emerging designers like Din with a global stage to showcase their visions. With such a strong debut, Din’s future in the fashion world looks as limitless as their imagination.
