Deadletter releases new album ‘Hysterical Strength’

Get excited for Deadletter’s new album ‘Hysterical Strength’ which was released on the 13th of September 2024. They performed in a packed room full of eager fans who were excited to buy the record at ‘Resident’ Brighton. I spoke to bass player George and drummer Alfie to get into the minds of the band. We chatted about their musical inspirations, advice for aspiring artists and their favourite memories so far.

The indie rock/ art punk poets Deadletter have a distinct sound, with a nostalgic twang yet an exciting modern edge. Zac’s old-fashioned vocals alongside fast guitar, heavy bass, and saucy saxophone take the audience on a wonderful journey of interesting musical elements. They take inspiration from various bands, with George advising to “be open to all, there’s probably something to take from every genre.” They both listen to Bashy and Massive Attack, as well as older acts like Neil Young, Jonie Mitchell and The Clash.

Deadletter emerged onto the scene in 2020, with childhood friends Zac, Alfie, and George having played together for 12 years. Originally from Yorkshire and now living in London, the band loves travelling and playing together across the globe, exploring new cities and playing to audiences at festivals and gigs. Their fondest memory is performing in Amsterdam at a festival called London Calling, where Zac is pictured below:

Playing live and writing music is their favourite part of being in Deadletter, with Alfie saying that it “allows you to maintain your inner child, and it’s so much fun doing it with your mates.” They started by busking together at the age of 15, and now play festivals like Down The Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands which was a really special memory for them.

“It’s good to see people smile when you play” – Alfie

They are looking forward to continuing to play music together. Alfie advises to “keep listening to music, don’t let yourself fall out of love with music”, and George comments “Don’t do it for money, do it because you love it”.

Deadletter are excited and proud to release their first LP and hopes everyone enjoys it.
