NEW SINGLE ‘ OUT OF SILENCE ‘ OUT NOW
.Who is ‘God’s Choir’
Me! My real name is Alex, I’m 20 and I was born and raised in Liverpool. I’ve been making music since I was about 11 – I write, record and produce all my songs entirely on my own and hope that others like them too.
2. For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
Someone once said evil MGMT but i don’t know about that. I hate when people say that they can’t describe what genre their music is because it’s usually some guy in an indie band who can’t admit that he makes indie music like shut up, Math Rock? I hate you. I make electronic music at the end of the day, some italo-disco aspects, some indie sleaze and heavily inspired by things that I’m going
through and how I’m feeling about them.
3.What inspired you as an artist?
I’m not sure because ever since i knew what music was that’s what i wanted to do like – my mum doesn’t even have a “she wanted to be an astronaut” story about me when i was younger because I’ve always wanted to pursue music. Like I said before, I’m really
inspired by things I’m going through. My emotions definitely influence my lyrics, my songs tend to be happier when I am and sadder when I am also.
4.What is your process for preparing to perform live? Do you have any Diva demands?
Not really, just 10 thousand double vodka diet coke’s and one of my friends forcing me on stage before I get too scared and run away. I seem really confident on stage but I’m fighting on the front lines in my head. All in a day’s work.
5.Where do you feel you fit into the music?
It’s an honour to be a part of the Liverpool music scene, such an amazing place to live – the scene has grown so much recently and I can’t wait to start doing shows soon. I’d love to do a release party at some point for a single or maybe an EP, many exciting things to
6: What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
Well i’m really inspired by electropunk (which will you will see more of with my next release after Out Of Silence), italo-disco, post-punk, new wave, the lot – I don’t hate many genres because there’s most
likely going to be a song i enjoy from all of them, i know I slammed Math Rock before but I love Slint so who am I to talk.
7.Is there a story behind the new single ‘Out of Silence’?
It’s about my ex-boyfriend, it was an extremely hectic relationship with a lot of great moments but a lot of bad moments too. It just didn’t work out – neither of us were in good places at all, I’m doing a lot better now and I hope he is too, but I wouldn’t know. At least I’m going to get a few songs out of it, sorry mate.
8.What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?
Definitely being an all-rounder, I do everything entirely on my own and I have a lot of pride in that. I’m open to collabs obviously but with the right people because I enjoy having full control – I think this is because I can hear things perfectly in my head and I just try and replicate them as accurately as possible.
9.What would you say is your greatest weakness as an artist?
Probably the fact I’ve never gotten over anything in my life so I will be writing about the aforementioned ex-boyfriend and the previous ones for the rest of time, once again, sorry mate. Someone could walk past me in the street and give me a dirty look and I’d probably write about it. But I guess that can also be seen as a strength, I suppose all song writers are proper wet wipes.
10. What can fans expect from your new single ’Out of Silence’
Well it’s out so expect to find it on all streaming services and give me some streams, thank you everyone!
11. What music artists would you say have influenced your work?
I always say the same ones because I forget every artist I’ve ever listened to when i get asked this question so its people like Suicide, Fuck Buttons, John Maus and anything Johnny Jewel is involved in.
12. Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?
Probably Johnny Jewel or John Maus, I like to think they’d like my music so being involved with either of them would be a dream.
13. What was your worst performance?
Probably at future yard, I did an electronic cover of Obstacle 1 by Interpol and my skirt was stuck in my keytar the entire time so the audience got a bit more than they paid for, don’t expect that at every show however – maybe if the crowd is dull, we’ll see.
14.What was the most difficult obstacle you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?
Obstacle, 1 skirt incident, I overcame it by fixing my skirt and apologising.
15. What is your creative process when making music? Do you work with others or is it just you?
It is just me, I make everything on my own in my bedroom with a midi controller, a live mic and a dream. I enjoy doing it this way, it’s what I’ve always done and because I have such minimal equipment it makes me have to think more sharply about how to mimic the
sounds I want
16: Where do you see your musical career in 10 years?
I’d love to be able to make a living off of music, maybe have soundtracked a film or something too – have toured the world or most of it. I’d just like to be living extremely comfortably and doing what I love. Wouldn’t everyone like to never have to think about
money ever again?
17: The UK seems to have gone into meltdown regarding the Oasis Reunion, are you bothered by It?
Genuinely couldn’t give two shits about two old fellas squashing some beef just because they’re down to their last few millions. Blur on top as well – Blur are musicians, Oasis are just a band.
18:Your Top 3 Overrated Musicians, who when you hear them you think ‘ How The Fk………….. ?
Are you trying to get me in trouble? I’m not cutting ties with anyone this early in my career, so for the record I love everyone besides Oasis and whoever made that god awful dance monkey song from a few years ago.
