WhyDee’s journey is one of passion, dedication and relentless commitment that has been unfolding for years, long before the viral TikTok moments. When we caught up at Qube Music Studios, his energy radiated through every word, especially when reflecting on his early start. “From when I was like 10 years old, my mum used to make music when I was growing up… I always saw her as like the next Rihanna, next Beyoncé.” It’s this early exposure that fuelled his decision to take the reins and dive headfirst into music production. “I went on YouTube, I looked at tutorials on how to engineer… I taught myself day and night,” he recalled, revealing his self-taught mastery of sound.

WhyDee’s passion didn’t just blossom overnight. It’s something that has been a part of him since his early teenage years. “…around 11, 12, was when I found my own passion for creating my own music,” he explained, making it clear that the foundation of his artistry was built long before TikTok became a platform for creatives. Though the app may have catapulted him into the spotlight, WhyDee emphasises, “A lot of people think, oh, I’m just this TikToker that makes funny faces, now all of a sudden I’m trying to jump on a wave and rap… but I’ve been doing it, is what I want them to know.”

While TikTok certainly helped with visibility, allowing his music to reach audiences far and wide, WhyDee insists that his initial intent was always music, not content creation. “I initially started TikTok in order for a way to promote my music… I didn’t know I was going to get this far into TikTok as a content creator,” he said, recognising the platform’s power but staying firm on where his true calling lies. “TikTok’s definitely the platform,” he acknowledged, but with a clear vision that his longevity in the industry lies in his music, not viral moments.

What I found stood out about WhyDee, beyond his infectious creativity, was his drive to bring others along for the ride. “We have like, for instance, our friend YJ, he’s on the come up… when we blow, he’s still going to be in the picture.” It’s this sense of loyalty and camaraderie that defines his journey, proving that his rise to the top isn’t just about individual success, but lifting up those around him.

In between discussing his breakout single, Jack in the Box, and reflecting on how platforms like TikTok revitalise the UK rap scene, WhyDee’s self-assuredness shines through. “I see myself doing exactly what I’m doing right now, but on a higher level… just going harder and harder,” he declared. His future in the music industry seems inevitable; an artist whose grind and authenticity are the foundation of everything he does.

Given his relentless ambition and undeniable talent, it’s safe to say that WhyDee’s rise is only just beginning; and we’ll be there, watching him climb higher with a bag of Space Raiders in hand.
