Produced by the renowned Kevin Burleigh (Paolo Nutini, Simple Minds, Glasvegas), “It Is What It Seems” encapsulates Redline’s raw talent while offering a refreshing perspective on embracing life as it is a message that resonates deeply with today’s generation.
“It Is What It Seems” delivers a powerful counter-message to the pervasive panic and fear in modern society, encouraging listeners to embrace authenticity and self acceptance.
1.Who is ‘ Redline ’
“Redline are Sonny Brown – Lead Vocal/Rhythm Guitar. Josh Ferrie – Lead Guitar. Kieran Rocks – Bassman. Luke Doyle – Percussion.”
2. For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
Sonny– We are a 4 piece rock n roll group who have an eclectic music taste and who are not afraid to drift lanes.
3. What inspired you as an artist?
Kieran – Bowie for me.’
Luke – Seeing the band grow and develop is what inspires me, which in turn inspires me to continue to write and bring in ideas.
Josh – I find a deep interest in the evolution of music, from the likes of Robert Johnson, to the cultural impact of the 60s which included some of my biggest influences like Zeppelin.
Sonny – ‘I want to make people dance and I want to make people feel good. There is not really much else to it to be honest.
4. What is your process for preparing to perform live? Do you have any Diva demands?
Sonny – Before a gig we like to meet up early in the morning, and begin by feasting on some quakers oats in Josh’s house. We tend to watch a trilogy of movies relating to the venue we are playing, for example, before the last King Tuts we watched Lord of the Rings. Listen to some tunes and sink a few Guinness before heading by off to the venue.
5. Where do you feel you fit into the music ?
Kieran – Like a magazine in a waiting room.
Luke – Like a glove.
6: What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
Kieran – It’s hard because there’s so many stems from genres that are great I would say obviously the broad genre that is rock and roll and all its other stems, love a bit of classical/Avant Garde elements in my music pallet, bit of the blues for sure and new wave doesn’t go a miss either. Every heavy metal record ever needs volleyed into a volcano, complete misrepresentation of what guitar music can be, puts a lot of young people off even the thought of a guitar when they hear heavy metal music and I don’t blame them.
Luke – Hard rock, the music of Hanz Zimmer & Ennio Morricone.
Josh – Rock n Roll, Blues, Psychedelia.
Sonny – Rock n Roll, Psychedelia, Electronic Dance Music
.
7. Is there a story behind the bands name ?
Sonny – In the Oasis documentary, ‘Supersonic’ we seen the band named themselves after a taxi company and our local taxi company was called redline so we decided to run with it as we were Oasis daft at the time
8. What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?
Kieran – I’d say our biggest strength as a band is focusing on a sound for a generation to live by and love, an army of the youth finding shear ecstasy in guitar based music again is something we stride so high for.
Josh – I feel like our greatest strength as a band is how creative we all are.
9. What would you say is your greatest weakness as an artist?
Kieran– I’d say everyday is a learning day for us all but we’ve got a long road ahead and we’re more than aware of what’s to come.
Josh – Social Media, apart from the bands socials we all don’t have much interest or care in it. Bring back the blackberry and BBM.
10. What can fans expect from your new single ‘ It Is What It Seems’
Josh – The moment you press play, the journey will begin. The journey will consist of rock n roll with a couple sprinkles on top.
Sonny– Listeners can expect a song crafted by a band with eclectic musical tastes, blending shimmers of the past with modern influences. We’re a band that’s all about mixing different genres to create our own unique sound.
11. What music artist would you say have influenced your work?
Sonny – All the good stuff, Beatles, Stones, Velvet Underground, Sex Pistols,Roses, Mondays.
Luke – For It Is What It Seems purely, my inspirations would have to be John Bonham, Matt Helders and Nick Mason . For the first half of the song I’m driving with a tight groove, and for the second half I’m a bit more laid back, the song feels as though it’s almost breathing.
12. Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?
Josh – Bob Marley.
Luke – An artist I would love to collaborate is an up and coming Scottish rapper called Bemz.
Kieran – Grian Chatten voice of a generation.
13. What was your worst performance?
Josh – The gig where Luke accidentally farted in the mic… yeah that wasn’t great Hahaha.
Sonny – One night at a local gig in a pub in Wishaw. We were all too fucked and and the songs went to absolute pot.
14: What was the most difficult obstacle you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?
Sonny – Overcoming musical differences. In a band, it’s all about working towards a common goal, creating music that we can all enjoy and be proud of as a collective.
15: What is your creative process when making music. Do you work with others or is there just you?
Kieran – We all write on instruments at home wether it’s formed on a acoustic guitar or a piano or a drum kit we don’t look past the challenge of orchestrating a sound around it, our songs piece together with everyone in a practice room pretty much, someone will bring in something and we build around it, It’s very much a collective sound with us. Lyrics come with us chirping away at building an idea, I do like working close to a song lyrically it’s always something that’s drawn me in a song and how it ties the music.
Luke – I can usually hear a drum beat in my head when I come up with an idea on the guitar. When in the studio we bring our ideas in and build on them as a band.
16: Where do you see your musical career in 10 years?
Kieran – I’d love to do Carnegie Hall or a colosseum like the Floyd done, I want the one in Rome and then I’ll be happy.
Sonny – At the top. Yeah, it’s a bit cliché, but honestly, what’s the point if you’re not completely obsessed with it? No one’s trying to be the BMX Bandits. I want as many people as possible to dance to our music, help people let go.
Josh – I see my musical career hopefully at its peak, which would be playing to thousands of people live with the band. Through constantly pushing and crossing boundaries to get there.
17:Your Top 3 Overrated Musicians, who when you hear them you think ‘ How The Fk………….. ?
Josh – I think there’s a lot more than 3 I can think of these days… all you need to do is stick on the charts.
Sonny – Van Halen, The Animals, don’t even get me started on Coldplay.
