Danish underground artist Sara Lew unveils her latest album LOUD, released on November 8th 2024, via Cloudland Records. Known for her distinct blend of fragility and resilience, Lew’s work reaches a new depth in this record, embodying a raw energy that balances delicate vulnerability with a fierce primal force. Described by Wonderland Magazine as “an album infused with ethereal guitar lines, soaring vocal passages, and raw, emotive expressions,” LOUD immerses listeners in a world of evocative contrasts.
In LOUD, Lew merges her life’s recent experiences with her singular musical power. The album’s acoustic moments give way to her haunting, textured vocals, creating a soundscape that captures both personal crisis and profound resilience. These layers reflect Lew’s journey of navigating encounters with grief and long-buried taboos, grounded in her commitment to be a role model for her children despite the weight of hardship. It’s a strikingly intimate work where “bare acoustic guitar gives way to vocals and lyrics gaining strength in the recognisable scratches that crises and grief leave behind,” as she has put it.
Born to an English mother and Danish father, Lew has long explored jazz, indie rock and alternative folk, bringing these influences into her role as both lead guitarist and vocalist. Her journey from studying with renowned jazz guitarist Ben Monder in New York to creating this album reveals a career defined by artistic growth and resilience. LOUD, mixed and co-produced by Nis Bysted (known for work with Iceage and Choir of Young Believers) and mastered by Emil Thomsen, echoes with this depth, complemented by Anders Filipsen on keys and Jeppe Gram on drums.
With previous singles like ‘Did You Ever Notice,’ ‘Faces,’ ‘Out of Nowhere’ and ‘Shady Light’ receiving acclaim, LOUD arrives as a culmination, reaching out to audiences with its delicate yet powerful embrace of life’s complexities and the redemptive spirit found in creation.
