Rachel Jane is a powerful, exciting and genre-bending artist who spoke to ASBO about her brand new EP ‘Sweet Escape’, listen here. Her velvety and soulful voice bounces over beats with the nostalgia of 90’s Rnb mixed with a pop-y edge.

Produced and co-written with the amazing ‘edbl’, which was an “incredible experience”, the EP features songs like ‘Easily,’ a relatable love song with the most scrumptious and satisfying vocals. “Every song is very different but very personal”, such as ‘Feelin’ Free’ – a gentle and smooth track about finding self-confidence again. ‘Reel Life’ has gorgeous melodies and speaks on the pressures of social media and comparison culture, whilst ‘Sweet Escape’ was written in a quiet place while she escaped troubling thoughts. “This EP is a reflection of different points of my life, all to do with love, self-confidence and pursuing your dreams. It’s a little collection of me.” Her sound has been influenced by Mahalia, Sinead Harnett, Amber Mark, and Cleo Soul. She dreams of collaborating with Anderson.Paak, saying it would be “incredible.”

Originally from Bath, she now lives in London, performing live in the amazing variety of venues the city has to offer. She started singing at the age of 10, began writing and producing when she was 16 and studied music from there. Driven by her passions, she released her first piece of music at age 18, but laughs that it “isn’t on Spotify now though!”

Rachel Jane feels connected to her audience whilst writing. She speaks not only to herself but also to others who can relate to her. “I want people to have songs for how they are feeling. I always write about my personal experiences or something I am going through or thinking about.” This is the motivation that drives her craft, saying “Everyone’s definition of success is so different. The beauty of success is that it’s different for everyone, however, there is pressure to ‘make it’ as an artist.” She continues, “Write because you love it. I need to remind myself of how far I have come and what I have achieved. Her advice to aspiring artists is to “do it for the love of it. “If you are writing music that you love, that truly represents you, that’s how you’ll find your fans.”

Working on a new single, releasing new music in Spring 2025, performing at gigs, and connecting with fans is on the agenda for this artist’s year ahead. Rachel Jane isn’t slowing down anytime soon, so follow her exciting journey on Instagram here
