At the Fashion Hong Kong Runway during London Fashion Week 2025, Angus Tsui presented his latest collection, GIGER, a striking tribute to the legendary Swiss artist H.R. Giger. His designs, deeply inspired by sci-fi classics such as Alien, Blade Runner and Dune, explored the themes of evolution, transformation and humanity’s encounter with the unknown.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘alien’, and the world of Alien has shaped my aesthetic,” Tsui revealed after the show, his voice steady yet passionate. “This collection is a tribute to Giger, specifically his creation of the alien exoskeletons. Our pieces reflect that strong, skeletal forms combined with high-tech, sustainable materials.”

Walking through the show, one couldn’t help but feel transported into an otherworldly realm. Tsui’s designs, which incorporated upcycled knitwear, vegan leather and sustainable denim, boasted exoskeleton-like silhouettes that were both futuristic and fluid. The models’ looks were a dynamic blend of organic textures and powerful lines, capturing the essence of evolution in a hyper modern world.

As the lights dimmed and powerful techno beats reverberated through the venue, the collection came alive. The music, described by Tsui as an “alarm warning,” set the tone for a world where energy consumption has driven humanity to space colonisation. “The idea is that we are evolving to adapt to new environments,” Tsui explained. “The music aligns with that, creating an immersive atmosphere where transformation feels both urgent and inevitable.” Tsui’s commitment to environmental sustainability as apparent not only in the materials but also in his design process. “We spent hours on pattern cutting, with each piece constructed from 30 to 40 intricate components,” Tsui shared. “The goal was to create a collection that feels both simple and complex, with a clear message of sustainable innovation.” Tsui, a pioneer of ethical fashion, integrates eco-conscious techniques into every facet of his work, ensuring that his avant-garde vision does not come at the cost of the planet.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Tsui’s approach bridges sustainability with high fashion, a vision that he has carried since founding his namesake brand in 2014. Trained in Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University and Fashion Design and Development at the Hong Kong Design Institute, Tsui learned the craft of upcycling and sustainable design under pioneers like Orsola de Castro and Ada Zanditon. “Fashion is not just about creating beautiful things,” Tsui reflected. “It’s about creating responsibly, with the planet in mind. I’ve always wanted my work to push boundaries, but in a way that is ethical and responsible.”

Indeed, his GIGER collection was not only an artistic endeavour but also a commentary on the future of fashion. His garments, though distinctively alien in their construction, embodied the possibility of a future where sustainability and innovation go hand-in-hand. “The future of fashion is not about minimalism for the sake of it,” Tsui emphasised. “For me, it’s about creating bold, transformative pieces that represent our evolution.”

Reflecting on his career, Tsui expressed his eagerness to continue exploring futuristic themes while embracing evolution within his craft. “I’ve been exploring alien-inspired design for five years, and each time I find new angles to approach it. I’m still excited by it, but who knows what the future holds?” Tsui’s openness to change and growth is perhaps one of his most remarkable traits, revealing a designer who is both committed to his craft and flexible enough to evolve with the times.

The GIGER collection was not just about fashion. It was a statement. In a world where fashion often blurs with technology, Tsui’s designs speak to a future where boundaries are pushed, not just in aesthetics but also in ethical practices. His focus on inclusivity was evident in his model selection, choosing diverse faces to represent the collection. “In Hong Kong, there are limited options when it comes to non-commercial looks,” Tsui said. “But here in London, I’ve been able to work with people from different races and backgrounds, and it’s been incredibly rewarding.”

The Fashion Hong Kong showcase at London Fashion Week 2025 was more than a runway show; it was a declaration that Hong Kong’s fashion scene is back, stronger than ever. Organised by the HKTDC, the event spotlighted the city’s growing influence in global fashion, particularly as it embraces innovation, sustainability and cultural fusion. With a focus on the Year of the Snake, the show marked the renewal of Hong Kong fashion, symbolising its rebirth since the disruptions of 2020.

For Tsui, his journey is just beginning. “Fashion isn’t about sticking to a formula; it’s about exploring new realms,” stated with quiet confidence. And as GIGER continues to echo the future, it is clear that Angus Tsui is a designer who is not just imagining tomorrow. He is creating it.
