ASBO magazine sat down with 24-year-old upcoming artist Jack Dean, ahead of one of his most anticipated years as a singer-songwriter. Countryside-born Jack Dean recalls how he never really knew of the opportunities available to him in music. He took to social media to share his incredible vocals through covers and self-made music videos, earning him an impressive 30 million views across reels and TikTok. After months of writing and producing music from his bedroom, Jack scored the attention of Jamie Scott, and eventually Mike Needle. The pair have written for some of the biggest names in pop and have provided Jack with endless networking and mentorship opportunities.
Jack’s music is reminiscent of the likes of modern pop icons Tom Grennan and Lewis Capaldi, with indie notes laced through his heartfelt words. Drawing upon real life experiences, he’s inspired by artists such as Labyrinth and Finneas, who in his eyes ‘push boundaries and constantly churn out good work’. Jack writes from the heart, to produce songs that fans can relate to and feel good through. Something he did when writing ‘Angel’, his latest single, which comes off the back of a difficult relationship and follows January’s release of ‘Still On My Mind’. He describes how turning thoughts into reality has been such a fun process for him. ‘Angel’ is an intriguing and addictive sound. It feels like a city does at night: cinematic and mysterious. For Jack, the song was an easy write and rewarding session. His favourite part? The collaboration that accompanied its production, where he worked with some incredible vocalists for the choir section of the track. It was an experience he recalls as fresh and like learning again for the first time. Jack’s rich passion for songwriting is evident through his mindset towards its challenges – he loves the learning curves, the ability to prove yourself and how, even when making music gets tough, there’s always a win at the end.

Jack’s hopeful for the year ahead, especially after seeing recent successes from smaller artists such as Lola Young. Working towards an album release and live shows, with a new fun and upbeat single coming soon, 2025 is a big year for him. His rise in music is showing, as he begins to work with a band and vocal coach too. Jack aspires to collaborate with talented individuals and hopes, one day, he’ll be able to share his music at Glastonbury Festival. Though, right now he’s focusing on natural progression, and if a mutual love of music takes him to the heights of pop stardom, then so be it.
