Words by Jared Harris
With a self-proclaimed title as damning as Chase Tha Worst, his music is anything but that. The pleasant contradiction of his alias with the music he creates is a clever revelation of Chase’s tongue in cheek and boundary pushing capabilities.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Chase has been working on carving out his own distinctive sound in London’s ever-evolving hip-hop scene. His music is a display of hip-hop which is colourful and interesting, never shying away from being experimental and often unsuspecting. His debut mixtape Tha Worst Mixtape, released last year, demonstrates a successful sonic endeavour which bridges the void between instrumentation and vocalism, building songs which compliment the symbiosis of Chase Tha Worst’s beat making abilities and clever lyricism. From futuristic funk infused synthesiser melodies to heavy hitting industrial percussion, Tha Worst Mixtape refuses to be pigeonholed into a singular style. Instead, it reflects Chase’s restless creativity, an artist who is constantly shifting, always challenging expectations. As he continues to push forward, Chase Tha Worst is not just contributing to London’s hip-hop scene; he’s actively reshaping its contours, his sound remaining as dynamic and unpredictable as the city itself. This mixtape presents an electrifying mix of experimentation, playfulness and unapologetic creativity. You can listen to Tha Worst Mixtape here.
Chase’s musical journey didn’t begin as a solo act. Before stepping out on his own, he was a key member of Cosmic Arcade, a hip-hop collective that relocated from the seaside town of Bournemouth to the heart of London. Together, they built a reputation for throwing wild, high-energy parties and releasing extraterrestrial and otherworldly hip hop. After three years of relentless beat-making, songwriting, and performance, Chase made the leap into solo artistry, carrying with him the lessons and spirit of his collective past. Whilst Chase is now developing a musical career based around his own sound, he is still firmly embedded within a community of creatives and fellow musicians.
Chase has formed a strong bond with Ling Yu, a director who was the creative mastermind behind the video for “No Friendz”. It’s a video which showcases how community cooperation and creative resistance, alongside using raw, unfiltered visuals, can highlight the power of collective expression in the face of industry norms. When asked about his working relationship with Ling Yu, Chase commented “we work well together because I have no label behind me calling the shots or making decisions of what should be done visually, so Ling Yu and I are able to do absolutely anything we want for the art, and we thrive off it.”
With the inception of Immigrant Party, an idea credited to Chase’s closest friend and longtime co-creator dan PARTIES, Chase is now helping to curate a night dedicated to global sounds and cultural celebration.
Chase is proving that his artistry extends far beyond the music itself. These parties are nights which celebrate culture and heritage, using music as a catalyst for these connections, creating a space where heritage and culture intersect on the dance floor. Through their carefully curated lineups (often delegating political titles to those who are performing; Vice President Bukky), surprise performances, and a strong community-driven ethos, Chase and dan PARTIES have manifested an image of what the cities nightlife can and should look like, transforming the dance floor into a space where personal identity, collective history and the powers of global sounds converge. In a time when borders cut and dissect through cultures, Immigrant Party serves as a reminder that music can transcend limitations, rising above physical barriers, and connecting people in a way that words cannot.

And that brings us to the question of what’s next? Currently, Chase is gearing up for the release of his upcoming single Tiefs, set for release this summer, accompanied by another striking visual collaboration with director Ling Yu and visual effects artist Charlie Jefferies. There are also whispers of a visual album to follow, but for now our attention remains firmly focussed on his next release Tiefs.
Chase’s musical story is rich and ever-evolving, and we are now seeing him prepare for his biggest chapter yet.
