"The album manages to capture the authenticity of pent-up energy... in about 25 minutes of non-stop calculated power."

Chicago has a long-standing reputation for producing trios that can turn a basement practice into a sonic revolution, but few have moved as fast as Feller. Comprised of Pete Willson (vocals/guitar), Ethan Toenjes (drums), and Ramsey Bell (bass), the group has been operating together only since 2023. Yet, the moment the opening drum clicks of "Rope Dance" hit the air, that timeline feels like a typo. Their debut album, Sound Colored Penny, arriving February 13, 2026, via Shuga Records, captures a level of telepathic tightness usually reserved for bands that have shared a stage for decades.
"Their collective sound is utterly timeless and energetic—intricate musicianship at its finest."
Clocking in at a lean 25 minutes, the record is a sprint of "calculated power." Recorded at Humboldt Park’s Jamdek studio with producer Doug Malone, the album is a direct reflection of the pent-up energy found in the city’s relentless music scene. It’s an evolution from their 2024 EP, Universal Miracle Worker, moving away from mere potential and into a space of perfected craft. The band doesn’t just play; they navigate complex, "mathy" harmonics and high-velocity rhythms with a precision that feels both dangerous and controlled.
While tracks like "Mary’s Perfume" blast the listener with "muzzy guitar riffage" and hilariously surrealist lyricism—shouting about innkeepers and cheesecake with total conviction—the album isn’t afraid to breathe. On "Penny Farthing," Willson’s ability to weave sweet guitar parts through technical harmonics reveals a rare vulnerability. Between Toenjes’ hardcore-informed polyrhythms and Willson’s unexpected shifts into falsetto, Sound Coloured Penny balances the heavy and the tender without ever losing its momentum.
"Willson consistently serves up hilariously nonsensical lyricism throughout the record that is brilliant when properly absorbed and interpreted."
Feller will celebrate the release on February 13th at Chicago’s legendary Empty Bottle. In true local fashion, they’ve curated a line-up that bridges the city's current sounds, featuring the high-energy TV Buddha and the "wise-soft-rock" of Hazel City (Clay Frankel of Twin Peaks/Grape tooth). For a band that "never sleeps," Sound Coloured Penny is the ultimate wake-up call for the Chicago scene.
