1: Band of Horses - No One’s Gonna Love You

I think most of these songs are just going to be nostalgic to be honest, and this song takes me back to my childhood in so many ways. Driving to my grandma’s house in Durham with this album playing in the car, falling asleep it a tree watching them play at Green Man festival. It’s a song my family always used to belt out together, and it really hits a spot in my heart.

2: My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade

This is one of my favourite albums of all time. I love the concept, the imagery, the storytelling. I really love how sort of musical theatre this album is as well. Again, it’s such a nostalgic song. I remember when it first came out and the music video was on the top 40 channel, and I was absolutely mesmerised, then I remember getting back into them as an emo teen, and then last year when I got my first car, this was one of the first CDs that I bought for it.

3: PinkPantheress - Just for Me

PinkPantheress has had such a huge influence on my musical style, especially the To Hell With it mixtape. This is one of those songs that I just don’t think I could ever get bored of, even though it’s only short. I remember seeing her at Gorilla in Manchester a few years ago and everyone shouting ‘beep beep’ after the line ‘I followed you today, I was in my car’. It was such a special gig, and I love this mixtape so much.

4: Laura Marling - Goodbye England (Covered in Snow)

Another nostalgic one. This song always makes me think of my dad. I love how many different emotions this song captures, the feeling of endings and beginnings, love and loss, things changing. It’s such a beautiful song. It’s the only song I want to listen to when it’s snowing.

5: King Creosote & Jon Hopkins - Bubble

I just rewatched the visualiser for this and for some reason it always makes me cry. I’m a sucker for anything with animals in it. It’s such a beautiful song and the lyrics make my heart swell, and again, it reminds me of being in the car with my family, all of us singing along and doing harmonies. It’s such a reassuring song, and his voice is so soothing.

6: Fleet Foxes - He Doesn’t Know Why

Fleet Foxes are one of my all time favourite bands, so it was really hard picking just one song of theirs. But I feel like I’ve got too many tear-jerkers in already, so I’ve gone for more of a feel-good, singalong song of theirs. I love this album so much, the song writing is so incredible.

7: Zedd ft Foxes - Clarity

This song is having a bit of a moment on TikTok right now, but it has been in my playlist for YEARS and I never get bored of it. It’s a real feel-good, scream along in the car kind of song, and it genuinely makes me so happy to listen to it every time.

8: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Into My Arms

Another one that always reminds me of my dad. Such a beautiful and heartbreaking song, gut-wrenching lyrics, and a chorus that makes you stop and hold your breath.

9: Bring Me The Horizon - Drown

This is a bit of a curveball one but I keep coming back to it. I think it was this song that kickstarted my transition from an emo teen into a pop girly. It’s just so catchy and has a real intensity to it that I love.

10: Charli XCX - Unlock it

I couldn’t not put a Charli song in there. A true pop icon, and this was the song that really got me into her music. I could never get bored of listening to this, and I feel like it has really influenced my cutesy-pop kind of vibe.
