New Release: Painforest” by BUSHROD

Out: 1st MARCH

Cultivating an unmistakable brand of infectious, humble music which bridges the gap between alternative hip-hop and rap, London-based, Banbury-born musician BUSHROD has found himself fast on the rise. Tackling an array of subjects including love and loss, mental health and the mundane everyday, with his signature charm, dry acerbic wit and effortlessly slick wordplay, the emergent wordsmith has drummed
up a loyal following with his down-to-earth discography, pastel-powered aesthetics and vivid visuals

Equipped with a DIY sensibility, razor-sharp humour and an arsenal of technically deft, yet refreshingly relatable lyrics, the talented twenty-something landed his big break with an appearance on SBTV’s legendary ‘Warm Up Sessions’ freestyle series, and has since ticked off a plethora of landmark achievements including two headline tours, plays from BBC 1Xtra, a sold out self-designed merch line all while receiving glowing endorsements from Complex, Amazon Music, The Independent, BBC Introducing and going viral on Depop Drama with his uniquely hands-on approach to music marketing. With a wealth of new material en route which continues to perfectly encapsulate the psyche of young Britain, listeners would be wise to get acquainted.

A powerful and explosive track, Painforest offers insight into the world of BUSHROD’s multifaceted emotions and takes us on a metaphorical journey through his experiences with feeling lost and isolated. The quintessentially British rapper covers feelings of confusion, worry and anger whilst imaginatively weaving his stream of consciousness through the idea of being trapped in a rainforest.

BUSHROD’s lyrical vulnerability is mirrored in the accompanying self-directed music video which features his signature aesthetic, visualised through playful and pastel colour palettes. The idea of loneliness and isolation is cleverly depicted throughout the accompanying video, which sees BUSHROD in multiple remote and secluded locations.

’When I made this song, I felt lost and isolated. I wanted to take the idea of walking through a rainforest and use it to symbolise how I felt at the time. My emotions are quite complex and multi-faceted, and in many ways, it feels similar to how a rainforest has so many layers and so much depth to it. The idea of its unpredictable climate felt like the perfect way to mirror the unpredictable nature of those feelings’’
