NEW SINGLE 'We Can'(t) Get It On' OUT NOW

W: Mandy Morgan

Sarah Ali’s ‘We Can’(t) Get It On’ is a fiercely confident Dance R&B track that transforms modern dating frustration into an undeniable anthem of self-worth. Blending early-2000s nostalgia, hip-hop edge, and contemporary London production, the Dublin-born, Beirut-raised, and London-based singer-songwriter reframes the emotional uncertainty of ‘situationships’ and ghosting into an absolute boundary. Produced alongside UK legend Anthony Marshall (Craig David, JLo) and inspired by the playful swagger of Eve’s ‘Who’s That Girl?’, the track swaps heartbreak for high-energy empowerment. Ali’s message is clear: maturity, open communication, and consistency are non-negotiable prerequisites before anyone gets access to her energy.

“Being left on read doesn’t define your worth. If someone communicates honestly, shows up consistently and acts with maturity, then maybe we can get it on. If not... we can’t get it on.”

Visualised through a Y2K-inspired music video filmed across London, the release doubles as a bold statement of artistic independence and sustainable fashion. Styled personally by Ali using vintage pieces sourced directly from independent London spots Y2K Vintage and MSSY, the aesthetic captures raw 2000s street style over polished corporate gloss. Elevating the performance is childhood best friend and choreographer Lea Steitie—a prominent member of the world-renowned Lebanese dance collective MAYYAS (winners of America’s Got Talent 2022). Steitie’s movement direction brings a striking visual language to the project, cementing a long-term creative partnership rooted in shared roots and creative freedom.

“You don’t have to choose between where you come from and where you’re going. You can proudly carry your culture with you while creating something that belongs to everyone.”

At its core, ‘We Can’(t) Get It On’ serves as a manifesto for a new generation of third-culture artists who refuse to compromise their heritage for global pop success. Bringing together a diverse roster of talent spanning Ireland, Lebanon, France, Jamaica, and the UK, Ali merges Western R&B formats with the emotional depth of Arabic storytelling. Rather than treating her multi-cultural upbringing as a limitation, she uses it as a limitless foundation—delivering an infectious, cross-border record that proves authentic collaboration knows no boundaries.
