2. For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?

JJ: Baroque Goth. Aynjel: It is so hard to describe ourselves without listing a load of influences – but listening to the Zealots is a bit like riding a horse in the 1600s & also like hanging out in a bat cave with Stevie Nicks.

3. What inspired you as an artist?

H: I’ve always wanted to play guitar in a band – Ever since I used to listen to Another One Bites The Dust in the car when I was four.
A: My first band played that in a church when I was twelve – I played bass.

4.What is your process for preparing to perform live? Do you have any Diva demands?

J: Lots and lots of alcohol (JJ then says ‘oops where has my cigarette gone’ and rolls over to grab it).
H: Dry shampoo – the volumizing one from Superdrug, not just any old crap.

5.Where do you feel you fit into the music ?

A: We fit in at the bottom left corner.
J: I don’t.

6: What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

H: Well, we love Psych and Goth don’t we, but I’m partial to a bit of Country.
J: Yeah, Country and Western.
H: I like listening to it because it’s not like anything we make.
A: GOTHANDNEWWAVEILOVETHE80S – and I actually really don’t like techno, I find it so
overwhelming
H: I really hate Midwest Emo.
J: Actually Disco.
H: Yeah, I can’t listen to it any more after working at a club for three years.

7. Is there a story behind the band’s name ?

H: Yeah, me and Aynjel decided we were going to start a band and we weren’t quite sure of a name yet. We went for a walk down Southbank and found the religious section of the book market under Waterloo bridge – there were two books: ‘The Myth of God Incarnate’ and ‘Jesus and The Zealots’…

8. What would you say is your greatest weakness as an artist?

H: That we couldn’t find a drummer for ages.

9.What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?

Tiss: That they found a drummer.

10. What can fans expect from your new single ‘I, Again’ ?

A: We’ve had this amazing team working on a music video for the song (thank you to Adrian & Hon & our extras). We shot it on location in Epping Forest – the video is a visual representation of time following you like an evil spirit and our daily lives becoming ritualistic.
H: The song is a little bit different from our last release, whilst still existing in the same world. I think it’s a step in the right direction.

11.What music artist would you say have influenced your work?

H+J+A: The Mission!
H: And Arthur Brown.
J: I am the god of Hell Fire AND I BRING YOU…

12.Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?

H: Arthur Brown – if we had the chance to collaborate with anyone it would have to be him.
J: I wouldn’t wanna collaborate with anyone else.
A: Mick Karn – but he died a little while ago.

13.What was your worst performance?

A: We did a gig this summer where the audience didn’t really get us. We have a song called
‘Baby in the Cupboard’ and I made a wry joke about how I like to lock babies in cupboards – my mum overheard a woman at the back say ‘what’s wrong with her, does she actually do that?
J: I was stuck behind a speaker.
H: And we had gotten a last minute drummer to play for us so I’d had to teach him the parts the day before, which was stressful.

14: What was the most difficult obstacle you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?
H: We couldn’t find a drummer.
A: And now we have found a drummer.

15: What is your creative process when making music. Do you work with others or is there just you?

A: Music Mondays!
H: We have this thing we do called Music Mondays.
J: It sounds so wet haha…
A: JJ and Henri usually start a crazy long prog thing on their own and I come and try to
squeeze it down into a song with them.

16: Where do you see your musical career in 10 years?

H: I’ll have made my fortune and retired to Luxembourg.
J: I don’t wanna go to Luxembourg?
A: Hopefully a stadium tour please and no band fights.

17:Your Top 3 Overrated Musicians, who when you hear them you think ‘ How The Fk………….. ?

We all say: IDLES (we don’t like testosterone powered Post-Punk).
Eric Clapton – we like Cream but Eric Clapton is a bit self indulgent and boring.
A: The KLF?
J: Beethoven?
A: Maybe we’ll never decide on a 3rd artist.
T: Tiss Vampiric.
