BRELAND’s brand new EP ‘Project 2024’, is a personal journey where he tells a story of faith, family and facing adversity. Released on October 18th 2024, Project 2024 is a scrumptious mixture of genres including country, hip-hop, pop, afro beats, and gospel. Breland brings joy and energy to the music, alongside deeper storytelling aspects that take inspiration from his life, resulting in uniquely wonderful flavour.
After losing sight of his ‘why’, Breland rediscovered himself and his music whilst visiting Selma, Alabama, where his great-grandmother and ancestors lived. “This is a project that largely came together based on the revelations of the trip.” He witnessed immense poverty in a desolate town with limited fresh fruit and healthcare access. This was shocking for Breland to see, resulting in a project with more depth. Feeling inspired for the first time in a while, Breland confesses: “I just knew that I didn’t wanna make music for the sake of making hits and being popular. I want to be able to do this for something a little bigger”
“I can’t do this for me anymore” – BRELAND
Self-described as a “storyteller”, the melodies are soul-satisfying with lyrics spoken from the heart, and his vocals are crisp and earnest. ‘Icing’ is a catchy and upbeat track with country elements, wild electric guitar and fast-paced drums. This type of song makes you want to sway and step along to the country beat. ‘Motion’ includes afrobeats mixed with country which is a delectable delight to the ears and the first of its kind. Other tracks like ‘Run’ have a more pop-oriented feel, reminiscent of Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus in the 2010’s. The melodies are catchy and heartwarming simultaneously. He collaborated with The War and Treaty for the final track ‘Same Work’, featuring deliciously authentic country sounds in an impactful ballad.
Breland loves to take his upbeat and feel-good music to the stage and share the joy with listeners, saying that he wants to “inspire, encourage, and lift people up”. When Breland puts on shows for fans he wants to make memorable performances that impact others, saying that he aims to “deliver a show that will move people, understand themselves better and connect with each other better.” Connecting with fans is what drives his passion, with one fan sharing “thanks to you my life has become more lively”. Breland knows that “making music is about the people.”
“I want to be able to do this for the generations in my family who sacrificed a lot for me to even be able to be here and pursue a dream like this”
Finally, he advises anyone in the industry that “You can’t pour from an empty cup”, and that “being responsible and taking care of your health is important”, having benefited greatly from good rhythms of rest before embarking on projects. He says to expect “more music in 2025”, so follow his journey here.
