I’m Feeling Feral! Meet Feral Family

Words by Rachel June

Get absolutely feral with the thundering trio made up of Jamie on vocals and bass, Oscar on guitar and Regan on drums. Meet Feral Family, with their distinct, hazy punk grit. Their latest single, ‘Brutalise’, will be out on 23rd October, alongside their previously released track ‘The Razor’, featuring vocals that sing deep into the night with Jamie’s signature British flair.

Feral Family make music that hooks you in a unique way. They instantly turned my head, and I simply had to find out more. So, join me and discover why you should join the family too!

So, how do just three people make that much noise? Well, drummer Regan likes to layer his drums with synths, taking a more emotional direction through the music. “That’s the glue of the track”, Regan explains. Their indie, gritty, heavy rock sound remains at the core, with catchy melodies that help them stand out in a tough industry.

Lead singer Jamie tells me, “Be experimental”, while guitarist Oscar agrees, “Don’t be too easy or predictable. Let’s push the boundaries of what we’re capable of”. Clearly, this band likes to push themselves, and maybe that’s exactly why they stand out so much.

The band can be inspired by any artist, but they mash together their inspirations to create a melody. The result is a juicy mix of musical flavours, with a taste so sour your face scrunches. Some songs are dark and linger, reminding me of early 2000s emo rock. It gets you in your feels and hits deep, like music used to. But it’s the experimental side of their music that really sets them apart. It gives their sound a spooky yet intriguing edge that quickly becomes addictive. I’ve had The Razor on repeat for the past two weeks.

The band’s dynamic is actually like a family. They’ve grown together as a “Dysfunctional family”, having played together for the past eight years. Apparently, it’s on stage when everything really comes to life. “It’s the highlight of our lives”, they reminisce, eyes glistening. They’ve promised me tickets to their next gig, and best believe I can’t wait to experience the magic first-hand! Review pending…

So, why should ASBO readers listen? Why should they become part of the Feral Family? I ask. “We care a lot. We take it seriously”, they tell me. And maybe that’s what it takes to make it these days, I ponder.

Want to know what’s on repeat for the band? They’re currently smashing Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones, a classic. They also shout out Gurriers, an ASBO fave, as well as Alice in Chains. A nice mix.

So, come along and join them on tour this December, where they promise:

“3 bands for five pounds”

Get yourself down there. It’s definitely worthwhile.
