Get Lost In: Neusha

W:Rachel June

Get lost in the sultry, enchanting world of 21-year-old London singer-songwriter Neusha. ASBO spoke with her about all things new music, including her recent single Everytime He Leaves. The track blends witty statements with relatable lyrics, telling the tale of a modern relationship. Her voice floats gorgeously over jazz textures, crafting music that feels like a New York fairytale with a modern twist.

For Neusha, lyrics are everything. “I care about lyrics. I struggle with explaining how I feel when I’m talking. When I write something down for a song, it comes so naturally to me.” Storytelling is at the heart of her artistry, and through metaphor and lyrical charm she invites listeners into her life.

Her influences stretch far and wide. She grew up listening to Andy Williams, while her mum introduced her to “hella Iranian music.” These two worlds blend seamlessly in her sound. “My music is my therapy,” she says. “It’s easier to talk through a metaphor than through blunt conversation.” With her passion for linguistics, writing becomes an act of self-expression, shaping a sound that is uniquely her own. “I think of songwriting more as a science rather than art,” she adds.

Music is woven into who Neusha is. Genre, for her, takes a backseat to lyricism, although she holds a deep love for jazz. “How I feel when I play jazz is the most authentic to how I feel in the moment.” Still, she thrives on versatility. “If I limited myself to one genre, I’d feel caged in.” Constantly pushing herself to explore new sounds, Neusha embraces challenge as fuel for creativity.

She finds inspiration in legends like Jeff Buckley, whom she has admired since childhood. “Jeff Buckley is the top for me. The lyricism, the way he sings. Every word he says is poetry.” From her love of languages to her personal experiences, Neusha channels it all into her writing.

Stay tuned as Neusha continues to share her voice and story. Her advice? “Step outside your comfort zone”.
