The Istituto Modartech Graduate Fashion Show 2024, titled “The World’s Bridge,” was a masterful display of how technological innovation can breathe new life into heritage craftsmanship. Staged against the backdrop of the school’s deep ties to the Tuscan leather and textile districts, the show highlighted a generation of designers who view sustainability not as a constraint, but as a creative catalyst. A major highlight was the collaboration with the Manteco Academy, which saw students transforming recycled luxury wools into architectural marvels. The runway was defined by "Eyes Wide Open," a theme that invited a global perspective, resulting in collections that bridged the gap between the hyper-local—such as traditional Italian tailoring—and the hyper-digital, featuring 3D-printed components and bio-based materials.
Among the standout talents, Klizia Giorgini and Luca Buratti captivated the audience with their diametrically opposed approaches to the modern silhouette. Giorgini’s work leaned into a deeply emotive, narrative-driven aesthetic, while Buratti pushed the boundaries of menswear with a focus on functionalism and technical "Urban Rider" gear. Sara De Santis also garnered significant praise for her meticulous research into material upcycling, proving that the future of fashion lies in the circular economy. From Manuel Gili’s sharp, conceptual structures to the inclusion of designs celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Vespa, the 2024 show solidified Modartech’s role as an incubator for "artisan-technologists" who are ready to navigate the complexities of a globalized, eco-conscious industry.
