Following a summer highlighted by major festival appearances, including Roskilde, Norwegian-born, Copenhagen-based artist Øyunn (Siv Øyunn Kjenstad) has arrived with her electrifying debut studio album, 'I Know U Can Do It', released via Midnight Confessions.

The album is a potent, genre-defying statement, blending breakbeats, rap, raw honesty, and soaring vocals. As a drummer, rapper, and vocalist, Øyunn's dynamic range and unmistakable sound—driven by groove energy and lyrical openness—deliver a record that is both extroverted and deeply emotionally nuanced. It pulses with self-reflection and fearless vulnerability, proving Øyunn to be a sharp songwriter with an ear for catchy melodies with an edge.
Co-produced by Øyunn and Brian Batz, the deeply personal creative vision for 'I Know U Can Do It' was meticulously recorded over four years across Copenhagen, Malmö, and Aarhus. Øyunn leads the charge on drums and vocals, creating a warm, organic sound alongside longtime collaborators Jens Mikkel Madsen on bass and Kasper Staub on synths. The result is a sound shaped by a tight, intuitive band chemistry.
Thematically, the album explores complex emotional terrain: old wounds, self-care, relational dynamics, and quiet optimism. Moving fluidly between explosive moments like the spoken-word breakbeat of ‘New Life’ and the intimate, hypnotic stillness of ‘Hope That You’ll Sing Again,’ Øyunn navigates the space between self-criticism and self-compassion.
While 'I Know U Can Do It' marks her official studio debut, Øyunn is hardly a newcomer to the music scene. She is known for her work as the touring drummer for Danish indie legends Efterklang, and has also lent her rhythmic talents to acclaimed artists like Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Frahm, and Guldimund.
Her previous project, the live album 'Aspects,' released in 2023 (originally a film, performance, and concert for Ultima Festival), led to significant recognition, with Øyunn winning ‘New Jazz Name of the Year’ at the Danish Music Awards 2024.
The momentum continues with her new album, as singles from 'I Know U Can Do It' have already garnered acclaim from major music blogs like Earmilk and 1883 Magazine, alongside airplay on BBC 6 Music and Radio X.
With this powerful and cohesive debut, Øyunn firmly establishes herself not just as a collaborator, but as a compelling solo artist ready to share her unique and powerful voice with the world.
