From bedroom demos to sunset-soaked anthems, Kai, Charles, Max, and George are carving out a space that is entirely their own. We caught up with the band as they prepare to usher in a brand-new era with their latest single, ‘Up High!’.

Currently split between a soundcheck in Kingston and family travels, Cutflowers are a four-piece alternative indie-pop outfit consisting of Kai, Charles, Max, and George. Operating out of a bedroom in Brighton, they craft music that feels both intimate and expansive.
The name itself is a piece of history—a "borrowed" moniker from Kai’s father’s former band, Cutflowers. By fusing the two words together, the group has created a seamless bridge between the past and their own "new era."
Describing their music isn’t a simple task for the band, primarily because their process is so organic. They view their songs as living vessels for memories and nostalgia, where every creative "path taken" acts like the rings in a tree trunk, marking the seasons of their lives. This sincerity stems from a diverse range of influences: while George and Max cut their teeth on the prog-rock intensity of Muse, Kai was shaped by cinematic soundtracks and The Beatles. Charles, meanwhile, finds his current inspiration in the mellower, folk-driven melodies of Bon Iver and Simon & Garfunkel.
"It can feel lonely, but it can also feel like the rules and cliques are completely made up. Because most of the time, they are."
What sets Cutflowers apart is a relentless, double-edged sword: perfectionism. Every note and action is executed with "absolute precision" to ensure it feels meaningful to the listener. However, the band admits this can be an obstacle. They speak of a longing for a "fearless lifestyle"—the ability to simply hop in a van and float where the wind takes them—but acknowledge that their tendency to overthink often keeps them grounded. It is this internal tension between meticulous planning and a desire for freedom that gives their music its unique, emotional weight.
In an industry often defined by rigid scenes ''Cutflowers'' are comfortable being outliers. Kai admits he doesn’t feel the band fits into the traditional music landscape at all, but he views this as a badge of honour. For them, the most profound moments are shared with people who are equally happy to get lost in the music. Their creative process reflects this communal spirit; songs are bounced back and forth between members, evolving through a cycle of "rinsing and repeating" until a track emerges that is both "perfect in vision" and entirely unexpected.
"A dreamy gut-punch follow up... something to blast into the night and get existential to in a beautiful, escapist way."
After five years of recording in short, intense bursts across the UK, the band’s relocation to Brighton has finally allowed them to find their definitive sound. As they hurtle towards the summer of 2026, the focus is entirely on their debut EP. Led by the single ‘Up High!’, this new body of work promises a "sunset-soaked" experience. Described as an anthem for the existentialist, it marks a shift into a more expansive, "Sunkissed" world—a world that Cutflowers are finally ready to share with anyone willing to listen.
