Daytime TV: Worth Tuning in For

Words by Rachel June

ASBO spoke with exciting emerging band Daytime TV, who describe their musical flavour as “Spicy dark chocolate”. Hardcore rock lies beneath saucy, delicious melodies that stick like honey. Grungey vocals hum over delicious drums, booming bass, and charming synths that pierce through like electric currents. Somewhere between pop and rock, their genre remains difficult to define. Alt-rock/pop with killer melodies seems to encapsulate it best. Sexy guitar lines and addictive pop hooks mean Daytime TV will no doubt have you hooked.

Musically, they can be compared to Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, and The Killers. But no one sounds quite like this band. A breath of fresh air, Daytime TV have big dreams, and we know they'll get there. Frontman Will draws inspiration from a plethora of artists in his orbit. “My music choices are very unhinged”, he laughs. On repeat right now are Black Sage by Mystery Jets, LCD Soundsystem, and Tom Waits. He also shouted out Bon Iver and Mirador. “I don’t listen to that much music though, I quite like to be alone with my thoughts a lot of the time. I like to raw dog it”, he tells us.

The band are close, “Like siblings”, and have “So much fun together”. Playing live is what lights their fire, and on stage they are unstoppable. “Liverpool was the best yet”, Will reminisced. “It was like a headline tour.” The band are back on the road and will return to Liverpool in October, so don't miss it.

Their creative process is equally intriguing. Will receives melodies from somewhere beyond explanation. “I’m the melody guy. They drop into my head”, he says. “I don’t know where they come from”, he adds. Whether he's walking home, cleaning the kitchen, or drifting off to sleep, a melody will suddenly appear. From there, the songs begin to take shape around it. “We all love writing”, he smiles. “But we hate rehearsing!” he admits.

The industry isn't always straightforward. “None of us signed up to be content creators, but it is what it is”. Social media now plays a huge role in marketing a band, and Daytime TV have embraced the challenge head-on. Their Instagram page is packed with creativity and well worth a look.

Ultimately, though, it all comes down to the tour. Will's advice to aspiring musicians is simple: rest plenty, look out for your mates, and “Aim everything at the tour.” On stage is where the magic happens, and for Daytime TV, it's what matters most. Solid and sensible advice, thanks Will. He adds, “And bring more socks!”.

2026 is shaping up to be a wild year for a band addicted to life on the road and always hungry for more. Catch them on stage doing what they do best. Their dream venue? Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Will's crisp flavour of choice is cheese and onion McCoy's, and we'll leave it at that.
