Death, Dance, and Deities: Bibi Club Returns with Amaro

W: Jack Knight I: Anna Arrobas

Montreal avant-pop architects Bibi Club—the creative duo of Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque—have returned with their third studio album, Amaro. Arriving alongside a mesmerizing video for the title track, the record marks a shift from the intimate "living room" vibes of their debut toward a more expansive, emotionally raw landscape.

The album was forged in the crucible of a difficult year, following the loss of two loved ones. This proximity to death didn't lead the duo toward silence; instead, it fueled a "fierce will to live." The result is a collection of songs that act as a map through the dark, pointing toward love, nature, and community as the ultimate anchors.

"Amaro is an immortal figure between life and death... a force that keeps us alive."

At the heart of the project is the title character, Amaro—a legendary figure representing the thin line between mourning and light. The title track serves as a visceral invitation to the listener to shed their inhibitions. It is a song designed to help the listener "become greater than oneself" through the simple, radical acts of dancing and breathing.

"The mantra ‘I want to love, I want to live’ resonates intensely in each melody."

Moving through a mental space "overloaded with grief and fear," Bibi Club manages to find a sense of eternity. By braving the "dark beasts" that shadow us beneath the surface, the duo reaches a profound conclusion: if the heart is a place that never dies, we must reach it as quickly as possible.
