IZCO Delivers High-Voltage New Single ‘Japan Greatly’ Ahead of Debut Album

W: Peter James May. I: Melissa Gardner

East London’s electronic heavyweight IZCO has unleashed ‘Japan Greatly’, the second taste of his highly anticipated debut solo album, Powerscroft. Released via Brownswood Recordings, the track features the raw, freestyle energy of long-time collaborators Reek0 and S.I. Accompanied by a new official visualiser, the single serves as a high-octane follow-up to ‘Strike a Pose’, further cementing IZCO’s reputation for blending broken beat, garage and soul into a signature, cohesive sound.

The track was born from a moment of pure spontaneity, captured during a session that the artists describe as "written in the stars." IZCO explains that the goal was to bottle the electric, vibrant atmosphere of the studio that day, characterised by the total creative freedom of Reek0 and S.I’s original freestyled vocals. Reek0 reflects on the process as being surrounded by family and "good energy" in a sacred space, while S.I adds that the natural evolution of the track felt like an organic, fated event.

Scheduled for release on 1 May, the upcoming album Powerscroft is named after the street where IZCO grew up, marking a deeply personal milestone in his career. The project serves as a sonic map of a decade spent at the forefront of UK underground culture, drawing from a rich palette of jungle, grime, garage and dub. It is a record rooted in memory and identity, designed to channel the physical energy of the dancefloor while exploring the artist's lived experience and musical foundations.

IZCO’s journey to this debut began with making rap beats for local talent before pivoting to the grime scene and launching his long-running Rinse FM show in 2018. Beyond his solo output, he has become a pillar of the community as the co-founder of the Brighter Days Family collective, built on craft and cooperation. With Powerscroft, IZCO steps fully into the spotlight, presenting his most realised work to date and paying tribute to the childhood road that shaped his musical character.
