Jack Dean and his latest single ‘ Tears Won’t Save You’

W: Erin Daly

ASBO magazine sat down with Jack Dean ahead of one of his biggest years yet in music. Last time I spoke to Jack, we spent a lot of time chatting about his goals and hopes for the future and this single is direct proof of his work ethic and dedication to those dreams.

‘Tears Won’t Save You’ was released back in September, marking his fifth single release of 2025; another piece to the puzzle of bigger music projects. The song is written from the fallout of a relationship - one that was drawn out, disappointing and full of ill-given forgiveness. The song marks the end of that period, a realisation that forgiveness shouldn’t be manipulated out of someone.

From the first listen, it’s clear Dean’s latest song is destined to be a radio hit, already garnering 72,000 streams within its first month, and equally deserving of more. It’s true it’s a song that demands attention. Its opening piano motif has you intrigued from the first note, before it throws you into the bold sounding body of the song with its prominent drums echoing throughout.

The song is written and produced with the help of modern pop icon, Tom Grennan, and Mike Needle (known for his work with Niall Horan and other famous pop gurus). You can hear Tom’s effect deeply on the track, and I have to be honest at times this song feels more Tom than it does Jack. Whilst writing with some of the industries’ best is an opportunity that of course shouldn’t be passed up, especially so early on in one’s career, I’d really love to hear more of Jack’s tone shine through in future collaborative work.

The track’s bridge particularly stood out to me: it’s riddled with strength and anticipation for the final verse. Jack’s impressive vocals are supported by sneaky violin instrumentals, pairing together for a perfect bridge. When I first listened to Jack’s music, cinematic was the first word that came to mind and for me, that still reigns the case.

When we spoke back in March, Jack emphasised how working with a vocal coach formed part of his plans for the year, and that has undoubtedly paid off. From the first line of the song you can hear the changes in Jack’s vocals, they were always promising, but now they are powerful, with an air of maturity.

Jack Dean’s discography is really going from strength to strength, and I believe with future tracks he will hone his sound to true uniqueness. ‘Tears Won’t Save You’ is an addictive sound; one viral moment away from blowing up and giving it the boost it deserves.
