Los Angeles Uprising R&B Star Jite

W: Patricia Eke

ASBO once again welcomes another talented young soul to the music scene. Jite (pronounced Jee-tay) is an R&B musician from the roots of LA. Her style brings back the beats from the unforgettable times of the 2000s. The LA musician recently dropped a new single called “OMW”. Interestingly, like Jite’s other singles, “OMW” has a slight indie touch to it, making it the perfect song for those who come from the world of R&B and Indie music.

ASBO sat down with Jite to take a deep look at the person behind the angelic voice. From the beginning, we learnt that Jite and her sisters went to an art-focused school at a young age, which has impacted the way she views and interacts with the world today. She feels inspired by other female R&B artists such as Solange, Aaliyah, Sade and Ravyn Lenae. She particularly feels inspired by the songs ‘’True’’ by Solange and “Birds Eye” by Ravyn Lenae and Lucy Park. Despite her inspiration from the R&B legends, Jite expresses how she likes to be unique by not sounding like anyone else. She describes this as ‘’Introspective and soothing.‘’ I feel like I fit into alternative R&B, " says Jite.

It is obvious that the young uprising star was born to create music. Creative activities such as writing, drawing, singing and journaling were instilled in her from the start. Looking back at childhood memories where it all started, the singer recalls ‘’I got the Nintendo DSI for Christmas when I was 12, and started to make little songs on there".

ASBO had the chance to gain some insight into Jite’s creative process and how she puts her music together. A lot of artists consciously write their music, whereas with Jite, things are a bit different; ‘’ I don’t sit down with the intention to write something specific, it usually comes out of me, melodies first, and then I’ll start humming, create a structure and then I’ll write words to that’’ Jite describes. As we delve into the technique of things, the alternative R&B singer describes how her ‘’Voice is on the lower side’’ and that she wants to ‘’lean into that more", as well as the soulful R&B with dynamic vocal stacks and to create atmosphere.

Shifting into a sentimental look at the singer's life, the 24-year-old speaks passionately about her admirers as she explains how she loves to meet fans and have special moments with them. She has a heartwarming connection with her followers, and it is something that will live with her forever.

As we all know, artists have their challenges, and Jite was kind enough to open up and share her own struggles in the world of music. As she recalls, "We all struggle with comparison". Some advice would be to "Keep in mind that nobody can do you like you." Her statement really emphasises her belief in celebrating uniqueness and the values of being you.

ASBO couldn’t just yet say goodbye without an exciting look into the future. Jite’s plans for the future are just as bright as her music. This year, she wants to significantly focus on her music and is thrilled to be on stage as she enters her ‘’Performance era’’. In regard to her plans for the rest of 2025, Jite expresses her thoughts by saying, "Sometimes you really can’t stay comfortable, because you can’t grow in your comfort zone’’.

As we came to the end of our interview, the 24-year-old from LA revealed who she would love to collaborate with in the near future. We might just be lucky to hear a hit featuring beloved producers Jay Versace and Biaco.
