Let the music of Kissmet put a smile on your face, wonder in your heart and gumption in your spirit. With soulful, crisp vocals and wonderful harmonies, the trio are bringing true feel-good indie pop back. They love telling stories through their music, and after finding each other, the songs simply began to flow. We asked Kissmet a little about the band, read below:
Who are Kissmet?
We are three musicians who met by chance just over a year ago and bonded over our love for storytelling. We stumbled upon a musical connection when we first wrote together, and founded a band built on collaboration, creativity and authenticity.
For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
We aim to compliment our complex stories with contemporary productions, sensitively played and recorded, with dual lyrical narratives and three part harmonies. It’s our hope that the audience’s experience deepens with each listen, uncovering something new; a harmony shift, a new lyrical perspective or a subtle musical flourish.
What inspired you as an artist?
Our inspiration comes from an urge to forge a community around our music. Our universe is open to anyone who sees the world a little differently, and is a safe place for our fans to be themselves. We uphold our side of the deal by creating things which feel genuinely and authentically us. That urge to create truthful art is what inspires us every day, as well as the friendships and collaborations within the band. We are constantly pushing each other, building each other up and striving forward with our creative goals, which keeps the inspiration alive.
What are you listening to at the moment?
We listen to a very eclectic mix of music. We are constantly sharing new song recommendations on our group chat, whether it be old classics, new music or our favourite independent artists. We also post lots of covers across social media, and these performances are a really good indication of where we all meet in terms of music that we love equally. Recently, we posted a cover of Seal’s ‘Kiss From A Rose’, which we all love for its quirky melodies and Chamber Pop harmonies.
Best memory as a band?
We will often carve out week-long periods within the year where we retreat away to write our next batch of music. Sometimes we head to Alex’s native France, or out into the countryside to get in the creative headspace. Our best times have been songwriting late at night, dancing around madly with the speakers blasting.
Is there a story behind the name?
Kissmet means ‘chance’, ‘fate’ or ‘coincidence’, and when we all met for the first time, it really did feel like the stars had aligned. Much of what we do and our journey so far feels slightly mysterious and magical, as if strings are being pulled just out of sight. We acknowledged these forces and the serendipitous circumstances of our meeting in the name, ‘Kissmet’.
What has challenged you in the industry?
Independent bands and artists do face a particular set of challenges, but we always try to encourage and uplift each other when things get difficult. We are lucky that there are three of us to share the load, to quality check our creative output and generally keep the mood up!
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
We live by the sentiment that hard work, gratitude and a love for music will drive us forward in the right direction. To do all of that, you also need to develop resilience towards all the obstacles stacked against you.
What music artists would you say have influenced your work?
Our music has the fingerprints of three different tastes, experiences and styles all over it: while Alex loves pop, Ted comes from indie roots, and Maggie is more folk. All together, we love artists who blend these styles, such as The 1975 and Coldplay. French music is also important to us, as Alex grew up listening to artists like Jean Jaques Goldman and Michel Fugin, and lyrically, we see the French chanteuse of early pop as the base for rich and in-depth lyricism and storytelling.
What's a fun fact people might not know about the band?
Alex finds it hilarious that Maggie and Ted always love to eat saucisson, olives and crisps while writing. It’s become a Kissmet staple.
This year, what can we expect?
We have lots planned for the rest of the year, and into 2027. Regular releases, accompanied by our signature release parties (small, acoustic shows with free tickets), shows with BBC introducing and lots more writing. But mostly, we want to grow our community and spread the Kissmet word.
