With her knack for creating songs that feel both intimate and uplifting, Kita invites listeners into a space that is thoughtful, comforting and full of personality. We asked Kita about her journey so far, the inspiration behind her music, and what the future holds for this exciting emerging artist.
- Who is Kita?
WHAT A QUESTION. One that I’d love to answer with confidence and clarity in the future. Is she a singer/songwriter? Is she a mother? Is she a multifaceted, diversely talent artist? Is she a disciplined workaholic who loves any type of growth? Is she just a small town coastal girl from Australia who has experienced loss and is trying her hardest to fill that hole by squeezing and experiencing as much from life as it can offer?
- For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
Sun soaked, introspective, timeless songs that can soundtrack your drive to the beach.
- What inspired you as an artist?
Childhood boredom. the satisfaction of creation and making something from nothing. Fleetwood Mac. Experiencing life and understanding it through colours and sounds.
- What Is Your Pre-Show Routine?
Meditation. A group angel prayer to fill everyone with good luck and energy. A little photoshoot to document the slay outfit before it gets ruined by sweat.
- Where do you feel you fit into the music landscape?
I see my music as having a really long life. Songs that people discover in years to come. I want to build a legacy that builds over time. I don’t want to shoot to the top so fast that it’s a struggle to stay there. I want to work for the respect and build loyalty over time. I see myself in the landscape of your vinyl shelf and soundtracking your Australian coastal dream.
- What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
Singer, songwriter, pop rock, folk, country are my favs. Screamo/heavy metal I can’t get around. It does something to my nervous system that freaks me out
- Is there a story behind the name?
Yes no one has ever asked me this. My dads name is nick and he was praying for a boy (I should have been nick junior) but alas I was born with a vulva and I became Nikkita. No, I'm not Russian. Just a girl who had to utilise a male name. I never liked nikki, so I shortened my name to kita.
- What would you say is your greatest strength and weakness?
My greatest strength is that I can hip thrust 120kg right now and that no matter what life throws at me I can turn it into something beautiful, through art. My greatest weakness is that I always want to believe whatever anyone tells me.
- What has challenged you in the industry?
Coming to terms with how much it costs to be a touring and recording artist. It sucks that is a job that only some people ever get the privilege to pursue.
- What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Use whatever is available to you to get ahead. Don’t be scared of what other people think because at the end of the day it’s not that serious. You’re just someone who loves music and wants to see if they can create a life from it. So give it a hell of a crack and forget about everyone else.
- Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?
At the moment I would love to write a record with Amy Allen.

- What is your creative process when making music? Do you work with others or is it just you?
I love to have an idea or a bunch of lyrics before I go into a session with others but lately I have been writing a tonne of music by myself which has been so nice

An Australian, EU, UK tour and maybe some cheeky bonus tracks to follow on from my album RAGE
