MEET: SKAAR

SKAAR is a force of nature. Born on Norway’s wild western coast, where deep fjords cut through snow-capped mountains, the music carries that landscape with it: sweeping, haunting, and emotionally arresting. The singer and songwriter - whose last name is SKAAR - is carving out a unique space in the music scene with her blend of indie pop/rock, pairing raw vulnerability with undeniable strength.

With a voice that "stirs the sea" and lyrics that "cut to the bone," SKAAR creates intimate, unignorable songs that pulse with life.

For those yet to discover her, SKAAR offers a vivid description of her sound: "I would describe it as very emotional but energetic indie pop/rock!" She notes that her songs are a mirror of her inner world, and her voice, which "stirs the sea," is perfect for conveying that landscape.

"I’m a very emotional person and always try to mirror the mental chaos in my songs. The journey to self love is a huge core in my music. So hopefully people can listen to it and find strength in that!"

This emotional depth is her greatest strength as an artist: "I’m in tune with my emotions so I always have something to write about. Can be challenging mentally at times but very good for the creative side!"

.

SKAAR has quickly established herself as an artist of weight and wonder. Most notably, she was named Songwriter of the Year at the Norwegian Grammys - a testament to her powerful lyrics and ability to "cut to the bone."

The absolute highlight of her musical journey to date is the stuff of dreams: "Playing in Royal Albert Hall while opening for Tori Amos. An insane experience I never dared to even dream of".

SKAAR’s inspirations span the spectrum of powerful rock and thoughtful indie. Growing up, Coldplay, Florence + The Machine, and Foo Fighters were the "biggest inspirations." As her tastes evolved, she discovered Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Banks, and Jeff Buckley. She credits these artists for motivating her to develop her own distinctive sound.

When it comes to genre, Indie Rock is her comfort zone. She even admits to overcoming an early dislike for Country music, which she’s now starting to enjoy!

As for dream collaborations, Coldplay remains the ultimate goal. She’d also love to work with Sombr, Djo, and The Last Dinner Party.

On her current playlist, she’s listening to "12 to 12 by Sombr" and giving a full spin to Lily Allen’s new album, calling West End Girl "From start to finish, iconic!!!!"

Her creative process is fluid, often starting with tiny ideas. "I write snippets and small ideas almost everyday and sometimes I bring them to a sessions and sometimes I finish them myself. It all depends on the day/mood/theme/emotion!"

One of the most significant obstacles she's faced was dealing with "Depression and anxiety in my early twenties." She is incredibly grateful for the help she received, stating, "Therapy helped me so much and I think I would’ve quit music if I didn’t get help at the time."

This resilience informs the simple yet powerful advice she offers aspiring artists: "Trust your gut!!! When people try to tell you to do something or to not do something, listen to your gut... If it doesn’t, screw them and go your own way!!!"

Looking ahead, fans can expect "Looooots of music." She concludes with a statement of intent: "I always come back to my deep love for music. That will never disappear. And neither will I! And she’s just getting started."
