Glaswegian duo Quad90 are officially back to reclaim the dancefloor. Following the breakout success of their self-titled debut album—which secured spots on six UK charts and became a staple on BBC 6Music—Amelia Lironi and Naomi Mackay have unleashed "Opaque." This latest standalone single is a masterclass in atmospheric tension, sounding remarkably like Roxy Music circa 1973 attempting to cover an obscure Northern Soul rarity.
"Avant-disco/brutalist-funk through a pop potpourri blender."
The duo’s sound is a sharp-edged collision of eras and aesthetics. Drawing heavy inspiration from the "mutant-disko" legacy of ZE Records, Quad90 creates a sonic world where the slickness of Chic is processed through the cold, post-punk lens of Martin Hannett. It is a high-concept balancing act: imagine Neu! performing alongside Sister Sledge, or Blondie reimagined with a darker, industrial flare.
"An irresistible slice of attitude... playing in the world’s coolest nightclub full of the most beautiful freaks." — Snack Mag
Since meeting at Riverside Music College, Amelia and Naomi have rapidly ascended from local favorites to key players in the modern disco scene. Their debut single, "Le Blank," set the tone when its 12” white-label release sold out almost instantly. Now, with "Opaque" fueling their momentum, the duo is preparing to bring their heavy electronic beats and joyous house keys back to the stage. Quad90 will perform a massive headline homecoming show at Stereo, Glasgow, on Friday, May 8th.
