RIDERS have just released their new track, ‘Avidazen’, and after waiting for what felt like an eternity, the long-awaited release has finally risen from the grave, gifting us with some fresh new sounds.
If you're familiar with the duo, you'll know their distinct musical style. RIDERS consist of brothers Josh and Spencer Brennt, with Josh leading on vocals. He's got the type of voice that scratches that one itch, and the result? I'm addicted.
Unique is an understatement. ‘Avidazen’ opens with electronic piano melodies that feel like little angel kisses, gradually building as Josh's vocals enter, reaching those impressive high pitches with effortless melodic expertise. There's something about the depth of his voice that makes it so pleasing to hear. It trickles through your ears, yet somehow simultaneously punches you in the gut.
Dramatic elements swirl around the track, making it distinctly RIDERS. The duo experiment with layers of sound to create something theatrical, meaningful and full of life and realism. It's almost otherworldly, goosebump-giving and sing-along friendly.
Their lyrics are always wonderfully profound, relatable and deeply rooted in spirituality. ‘Avidazen’ also teases us with the promise of new music on the horizon, which is a relief for us fans who have been begging for it. “Seriously, this music gives me life”, one Instagram comment reads.
RIDERS are not afraid to make somewhat controversial, self-aware and deeply personal songs that explore freedom, struggles and conversations with God through Christianity.
“Goodbye, farewell, Avidazen my flesh” describes, to me, the Christian battle between the spirit and the flesh. “For the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).
As a fan who's hammered every single track about 100 times each, I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what's to come.
If you are yet to discover their work, stick on ‘TO THE SEARCHING, THE LOST AND THE FOUND’; it just might find you. I wish I could listen to it for the first time all over again.
Stay tuned as RIDERS continue to tease upcoming music that is truly unlike anything else.
