An Afternoon with Glasgow’s Own ‘Foundation Maths Rock’ Pioneers: ESCAPE GOATS
New Single: 'Rompecabezas Out 8th August 2025

Hailing from the gritty, vibrant music scene of Glasgow, ESCAPE GOATS are not your average trio. Comprised of John (Guitar/Vocals), Shep (Bass), and Adam (Drums/Vocals), the band has been turning heads with their self-described "Foundation Maths Rock" and an irreverent sense of humor that is as sharp as their riffs. We caught up with the boys to talk about their new single, "Rompecabezas," their fear of germs, and their dream of recording a banjo banger with a Scottish legend.
The band is keenly aware of their place in the industry: if the music landscape were a manicured garden, they’d happily take up residence as the garden gnomes. However, their new music is anything but quaint. Their latest single, ‘Rompecabezas’, is described as a "rambunctious number" with an irreverent tone. The track, intriguingly written in 3/4 time, invites listeners to try a waltz while they listen. The concept behind the single began with a fascinating linguistic irony: the German word for poison is gift.
While the band converges on musical tastes, their personal routines are slightly more colorful. Pre-show, the band members get their heads in the game by taking out their "band ouija board" to summon Kokopelli, the music minstrel. Drummer Adam, meanwhile, takes the title of the band's resident diva, requiring a rider stacked with vests emblazoned with prints of his favourite bands.

When discussing their collective strengths and weaknesses, the band offers a balanced, if humorous, perspective: their greatest strength lies squarely in Adam's biceps, while their greatest weakness is, conversely, John's biceps.
The band’s creative process usually begins when one member brings an exciting idea to the studio. This idea is then collaboratively reworked over several weeks. Once the core structure is finalized, they aim to record quickly, adding all the intricate, “fancy bits” during the production process.
The band also faces unique obstacles. Drummer Adam’s fear of germs means he won't share water, a problem the band ingeniously solved by simply removing the label from his bottle to prevent mix-ups.
As for future collaborations, the band has one major target: they dream of joining forces with the legendary Billy Connolly to finally record that elusive “banjo banger.”
With their creative approach, distinctive sound, and evident sense of humor, ESCAPE GOATS continues to defy expectations, proving that in the world of Foundation Maths Rock, the numbers always add up to a good time.
