SPOTLIGHT: PIRACYISTHEFT’

I: Syd Gaufo

Who is ‘ PIRACYISTHEFT’

We are an experimental hip hop band from London.

For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?

Glitchy, fun, weird

What inspires you as a Collective?

Lots of things inspire us. We’re all big readers, which helps with our song concepts, which can be a little surreal.

What Is Yor Pre-Show Routine? And who is the biggest Diva ?

I wish I could say it wasn’t just getting turned up, but right now it is. James is far and away the biggest.

Where do you feel you fit into the music landscape?

I don’t know that we do fit. We get a lot of love from different people, the hip hop people, post punk, dance music fans. We love a lot of music and I’d hope you could hear that in there.

What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

We like a lot of different stuff. James came up in post-punk bands, and Sammy and Ivan were more art pop fans. Hip hop was kinda the thing that brought us together, a mutual love.

Is there a story behind you’re the new single 'Grin & Lie’ ?

I think it’s like our version of a love song. Maybe not for a person. Love for life. Maybe ourselves.

What would you say is your greatest strength as a collective is ?

Creativity.

What would you say is your greatest weakness as a collective ?

I think we work pretty well together ahahah. I’d try not to focus on a weakness. Maybe our house. It could do with a lick of paint.

What can fans expect from your new single ‘Grin & amp; Lie ’

Epic sounds, nice bars, big finish.

What music artist/band would you say have influenced your work?

We like a lot of the same producers. We’d to hop on a beat by el-p, the alchemist, jpegmafia. Maybe Jim Legxacy if he was down, we like him a lot.

Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?

We like a lot of the same producers. We’d to hop on a beat by el-p, the alchemist, jpegmafia. Maybe Jim Legxacy if he was down, we like him a lot.

What was your worst performance?

Haven’t had one yet ahahaha. Which is good. Hopefully it stays that way. But as individuals we’ve all played to empty rooms many times.

What was the most difficult obstacle you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?

When James was living in Ireland. That was hard to keep focused. I’m glad we live together now.

What Is Your Creative Process When Making Music?

We all make beats, so we’ll bring them to a session, and if we all agree we’ll lay the verses down. I’d say maybe a quarter end up being fleshed out into proper ‘tracks.;
