The future of fashion didn’t just walk the runway at the SCAD Museum of Art; it practically sprinted. Underneath a mesmerising, floating aerial installation by Janet Echelman, SCAD FASHION 2026 delivered an absolute tour de force that made traditional fashion weeks feel distinctly old-hat.
Kicking off with an energetic performance by dancer Lil Buck, the show transitioned into a high-octane display of over 200 look choices from 60 graduating designers. This wasn’t a timid collection of student experiments. Instead, the crowd was treated to an expertly synchronised exhibition of commercial viability married with pure, unadulterated theatre.
The structural bravery on display was exceptional. Designers masterfully subverted streetwear conventions, pairing oversized, utilitarian silhouettes with hyper-saturated colour palettes that practically vibrated under the lights. There was a distinct lack of cynicism in the air; the collections prioritised joy, textile innovation and a fearless approach to gender-fluid tailoring.
The ultimate highlight, however, was the eveningwear segment. Mentored by Lanvin’s artistic director Peter Copping—serving as the university’s designer in residence—six chosen students showcased a breath-taking finale. These garments effortlessly bridged the gap between classic, meticulous atelier craftsmanship and radical modernism. The fluid drapery and intricate embellishments were proof that these designers possess both the technical skill and the conceptual vision to lead luxury houses.
