London-based five-piece Gifthorse, fresh from being featured in the current issue of ASBO, have announced a three-month summer residency at the legendary Elephant’s Head in Camden.

Dubbed the ‘Frazzled English Summer’, the monthly residency sees the band curating a series of free-entry shows designed to showcase a bubbling new collective of like-minded talent.

"We were keen to play alongside bands we admired and ones we felt were kindred spirits on our Camden scene," the band explains. "We feel the bands we have chosen share aesthetic and cultural similarities to us, forming a bubbling scene that sits adjacent to the popular guitar band sound of the moment."

The residency marks a major milestone for the group at a venue that holds massive sentimental value.

"The Elephant's Head is a venue close to our hearts. We first played there a year ago as a duo with a drum machine, so to be back as a formidable five-piece lineup means a lot to us. We can't wait for the shows. There will also be new music released to coincide with one of the dates—more details on that to be revealed soon…"

Decoding 'Frazzled English Pop'

The inspiration behind the residency’s title stems directly from the band's self-defined genre.

"‘Frazzled English’ became an online trend a couple of years ago, referring to characters like Hugh Grant in Notting Hill, Billie Piper in Doctor Who, and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors," the band reveals. "They're bumbling and awkward, but charming and quintessentially English characters. We felt the characters we write about in our songs can be nicely summed up by that phrase—doing activities like going to the Heath or catching a night bus back from Hackney to the suburbs."
