featuring The Hara New Issue Out Now
Montreal art punks La Sécurité have just released their album ‘Bingo!’ and play UK shows in July.

W: Peter James May

Following up on their acclaimed 2023 debut 'Stay Safe!', with their second album 'Bingo!', La Sécurité have crafted yet another genuine and inspired collection of beautiful curiosities, further implementing polyrhythms, counter-intuitive chord changes, as well as subtle melodic and harmonic dissonance. The resulting forays into subversive pop are catchy and rhythmic, while also challenging the listener via eclectic, often edgy arrangements. The album sees the Montréal collective introduce even more elements from no wave, noise rock, and shoegaze to their signature alloy of bilingual art-punk, creating something jittery, confrontational, and irresistibly kinetic.

La Sécurité is a collective whose art punk is equal parts: jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements and minimalistic melodic hooks; run through an insomniac filter, the result of excessive exposure to the city’s neon lights. The music is all about living dangerously, perfectly agreeable to being blasted onto dancefloors; while the lyrics share the ethos of the Riot Grrrl movement, and celebrate the autonomization of women, friends (mean and nice), as well as benevolence.
